The track Sideline is written for a special project I did in 2021, commissioned by a ceramic museum in Leeuwarden. I wrote it partly with the Dutch royal figure Maria Louise van Hessen-Kassel in mind, who lived in Leeuwarden in the 18th century. I performed this track in the garden of the palace (which is now the museum) where she used to live, as part of a program around a video mapping show about the life of Maria Louise. It's about different things, themes that inspired me to write this track are: a woman in a man's world, a sense of getting voted out or not taking part (being put on the sideline), feeling free without having the means to develop yourself. The track revolves around elusive rhythms (both electronically made and played with acoustic African percussion instruments), a dim piano and vocals. The way the voices are stacked and how electronic sounds drive the rhythm of the track are hints for the next Onna Limb release.
